It is part of the &#8220;new FD&#8221; generation so it is easier to mount than older FD lenses. Some parts like the aperture ring at the front plate are obviously made from plastics. All the markings are embossed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Size, Weight and Handling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1646 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8-11.jpg\" alt=\"Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8-11\" width=\"696\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8-11.jpg 696w, https:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8-11-261x300.jpg 261w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Canon_nFD_24mmf2p8-7.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Canon FD 2.8\/135 is a medium sized lens and not too heavy at about 400g.\u00a0It is very well balanced on my Sony Alpha 7.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>focusing ring<\/strong> travels about 200\u00a0degrees from 1.3m\u00a0to \u00a0infinity. I think that\u2019s a very reasonable focus throw. I would have wished for a little more resistance though, it feels\u00a0a bit too loose.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>aperture ring\u00a0<\/strong>has half-stops from f\/2.8 to f\/22 but it requires too much force to move it if you ask me.<\/p>\n<p>All in all operation works well enough but other lenses handle a bit more pleasant. Reduced a lot by f\/4\u00a0and\u00a0gone for all practical purposes by f\/5.6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8_Vignetting.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1641\" src=\"http:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8_Vignetting-300x244.jpg\" alt=\"Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8_Vignetting\" width=\"300\" height=\"244\" srcset=\"https:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8_Vignetting-300x244.jpg 300w, https:\/\/phillipreeve.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Canon_nFD_135mmf2p8_Vignetting.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Flare Resistance<\/h3>\n<p>Flaring<strong> can be a problem<\/strong> with the FD 2.8\/135.\u00a0I couldn&#8217;t provoke any ghosting but in a worst case scenario you will see a\u00a0painful\u00a0contrast loss. some\u00a0scenes and much more of an issue than lateral CA because it can&#8217;t be easily corrected.<\/p>\n<h1>Bokeh<\/h1>\n<p>The Canon FD 2.8\/135 draws a very pleasant bokeh and this is one of It is a \u00a0bit expensive though and much heavier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Minolta MD Rokkor 2.8\/135 &#8211; <\/b>Both lenses are similar in size and performance, I think the Minolta is a tiny little bit sharper. I prefer the Minolta&#8217;s build quality but the Canon has 8 aperture blades and focuses a bit closer. It is also \u00a0130 grams lighter.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minolta MD Zoom 4\/75-150 <\/strong>&#8211; A very interesting lens which is as sharp as the Canon but more versatile. For landscape photography I would prefer the Minolta.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"entry-content\"><strong>Canon FD 4\/80-200 L &#8211; <\/strong>Much more expensive and quite a bit bigger.
