Affordable yet compact cine lenses are a big and interesting market for new lens manufacturers these days, but only few of these lenses cover the whole fullframe area. The guys at 7Artisans decided to enter the market with their Spectrum Cine lens line up consisting of a 35mm, 50mm and 85mm lens, all with a T-Stop of 2.0 and shared mechanics. Let’s have a closer look.
Some lenses really come as a surprise and this 7Artisans 28mm 5.6 is definitely one of those. Not that long after the TTArtisan 28mm 5.6 hit the market we see another lens with the same specs – but a completely different optical and mechanical design. I don’t know about you, but I did not see this coming.
So let’s find out in this review who offers the better 28mm 5.6 lens. The lens is being tested on 24mp Leica M10 and 42mp Sony A7rII.
I have already reviewed many of the super fast 50mm lenses from China, e.g. the TTArtisan 50mm 0.95, several 50mm 0.95 from Zhong Yi and just lately the SYoptic 50mm 1.1. What was missing so far was this 7Artisans 50mm 1.05 with its rather unorthodox maximum aperture of f/1.05. What also sets it apart from the others: it has actually been designed for the Sony E-mount cameras, not for M-mount cameras. So let us find out what this lens has in store for us.
In one of my drawers I found two rolls of Ektar 100 from the times a roll was only 8€. Expired 2015. Not exactly properly stored. So a good opportunity to see if the exposure meter works and where I stand with the rangefinder calibration of this camera. Processing and scanning was done at urbanfilmlab in Germany.
The 7Artisans 35mm 1.4 IF came as a bit of a surprise as it features an internal focus design. Something, which is still rarely seen among M-mount lenses and a novelty for 7Artisans. But does this also translate to superior optical qualities? Let us find out in this review! This lens will be reviewed on the 42mp Sony A7rII and the 24mp Leica M10.
