Martin M.H. lives outside Stockholm, Sweden. He is a M.Sc. in Computer Technology but he has been a passionate photographer for over 50 years. He started his photographic adventures when he was thirteen with an Agfamatic pocket camera, which he soon replaced with a Canon rangefinder camera that his mom gave him in his teenages. After that he has been using Canon SLR, Nikon SLR manual focus and Autofocus, Sony mirrorless crop sensor, Nikon DSLR and Nikon Mirrorless. He has photographed any genre he could throughout the years and you can see all kind of images in his portfolio. Today, you can create almost any effect in post-processing. However, there are hurdles: 1) you need a good editing program, 2) you have to master the program to get good results, 3) you have to spend some time in front of your computer to get the desired effect. Alternatively, you can invest in expensive specialty lenses to achieve a specific result. This is especially challenging, if not impossible, for achieving the effect in videos. Given these challenges, especially in video, a simpler solution emerges – using filters. Let’s have a look!

Review: Nikon Nikkor Z 28mm f/2.8

Introduction

Nikon Z 28/2.8 has the classic focal length for candid street work and is a very compact lens. In fact, it is one of the smallest and lightest Z prime lenses for fullframe cameras. It can be fitted on an APS-C camera as a prime standard lens, which will have the equivalent focal length of 42mm, my favorite standard focal length. It is also one of Nikon’s most affordable Z lenses for fullframe cameras. Note that it is not an S series lens. Let’s see how it performs!

This lens was tested on Nikon Z 7II with its 46 Mp sensor.

Review: TTArtisan 250mm f/5.6 Reflex

Introduction

From time to time, TTArtisan creates unconventional but very interesting lenses not typically found in other lens manufacturers’ offerings. (e.g. the 100/2.8 bubble bokeh, or the 100mm 2x macro Tilt/Shift). This time they have come up with a telephoto lens. A light and compact full-frame mirror lens with an unconventional focal length of 250mm. On an APS-C camera it has an equialent focal length of 375mm, which touches the realm of super telephoto lenses. Let’s have a look!

I tested this lens on a Nikon Z 7II mirrorless camera, which has a 46Mp full-frame sensor. Sample images were taken in both FX (full-frame) and DX (APS-C) formats. Whenever the image was captured in DX format, I noted it in the caption.

Review: TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 – The Ultra-Portable Lens for Great Street Photography (APS-C)

Introduction

This 27mm pancake lens for APS-C cameras could be a good choice for everyday photography. Its focal length, between a wide-angle lens and a traditional standard lens, offers a versatile perspective that’s quite usable for capturing everyday moments. Its first version, only for Fuji X cameras, was the company’s first autofocus lens. They’ve since expanded to include versions for Nikon Z and Sony E mounts. It is one of the cutest lenses I have ever seen, not only it is small, but also very light and good-looking. The attractive price tag of around $149 makes it an even more compelling option, but how well does it perform? Let’s find out!

Review: Nikon Z 40mm f/2 – The Street Sniper for Discreet Photography

40mm is one of my favorite focal lengths. Closer to the human’s natural angle of view than a 50mm, and slightly wider than 50mm, it allows for more context to be included in the image. I prefer this focal length in front of a 50mm for street and everyday photography. The Nikon Nikkor Z 40/2 with its compact format is therefore an interesting lens. It is not an “S” line Nikkor Z lens, which is Nikon’s premium series but very compelling nonetheless. Let’s have a look at it!
